Believe in One Law For ALL?

Sharia law is discriminatory and unjust, particularly against women and children.
Sharia courts in Britain are a quick and cheap route to injustice and do nothing to promote minority rights and social cohesion.
Their voluntary nature is a sham as many women will be pressured into going to these courts and abiding by their decisions.
Those who fail to make use of Sharia law or seek to opt out will be made to feel guilty and can be treated as apostates and outcasts.

If you agree will the following statements, Sign the One Law for All Petition

  • We call on the UK government to recognise that Sharia and all religious laws are arbitrary and discriminatory against women and children in particular. Citizenship and human rights are non-negotiable.
  • We demand an end to all Sharia courts and religious tribunals on the basis that they work against and not for equality and human rights.
  • We demand that the law be amended so that all religious tribunals are banned from operating within and outside of the legal system.

Invitation to Deface the Bible

Excellent - Now all we need is a few million copycat artists to permantly deface the rest of the nonsensical scriptures and humanity may finally be free!

The God of Insufficient Statistics?

I watched a video on youtube entitled "What Evolutionists Never Realize part1" which was clearly authored by one or more Islamic sympathisers a sycophants.
I've embedded it for your convenience.

http://youtu.be/vZA4LY4BFdQ
Now, because it's anti-evolution propaganda by an organisation with, shall we say, a vested interest, it would be foolish to accept any of their 'FACTS' as 'TRUTH', however one slide in the presentation caught my eye -
'Evolutionists never realize that the chances of a functional protein forming by chance are 1 in 10 (to the power of 950)'

It set me thinking, you know how things do, and it occurred that somebody must have done the math on how likely the big questions are, to have the answers many think they have?
Questions like,
  • How did we get here?
  • Where do we come from?
  • How did the universe come about?
  • If the chances of the universe exploding into existence from nothing are astronomical, (lol) then how much smaller are the chances that a fully-formed, highly-educated, all-knowing being popping into existence!!

What are the actual chances?
What are the odds?
How might one prove which is more likely, big bang or god?

So I've been trawling around various probability blogs and websites, trying to get a handle on the subject and discover if anybody has done any work on it.
After much research, and something of a glimmer of understanding, I was reading a post called "Can we calculate the probability of God?"1 on a blog entitled "The Big Bang to Now" and a question arose almost fully formed, a question so beautiful that I was instantly going to post it to Twitter.
Where insufficient statistics exist to calculate the probability of ‘X’ occurring, can 'Possible' be a proper descriptor for ‘X’?
My son who, I'm proud to say, is a bit of a physics geek, saw me typing and got very excited, grabbed the keyboard, almost pushed me from my seat and typed furiously for a few seconds - he posits this equation

If P(X) ≠ P(X)irc → P(X) ≅ 0
P(X)irc = Information required for calculation (of Probability of X)

I’m an artist by profession but I think, and he assures me, it makes sense and states - Where insufficient stats exist to properly calculate the probability of an event’s occurrence, it is not reasonable to conclude that the event will/did occur.
What does this mean in real terms?

If it is not possible to calculate the probability
of the existence of God,
then it is unreasonable to assume a god exists.
If it can be considered unreasonable to assume it,
it should be thought unconscionable
to promote the concept as fact.

Yet the fraud continues.

Even Irish Gods are Bullshit

I have been trying to avoid saying what, to my shame, has been the only comment in my head since the Irish government proposed the 'stupid rule' or blasphemy law as it's more commonly called.
But my lack of response was also because, I think, it was a shock to me.
Ireland, for me, stepped into the 21st century earlier than most - it seemed like the place of movers and shakers, a new forward-thinking economy boosted by the end of the troubles as they were so delicately described.
But, only a decade later, Ireland stepped back into medieval voodoo!
President Mary McAleese has this morning signed the Defamation Bill 2006 and the Criminal Justice (Amendment) Bill 2009 into law.

Irish Times Thursday, July 23, 2009
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2009/0723/breaking4.html

Disregarding the fact that the introduction of a law like this, which renews the offence of blasphemy, is only a bad election away from witch-hunts or the Spanish inquisition, when you make it an offence to limit peoples opportunity to speak against unwarranted belief, you encourage the spread of that belief, encouraging delusion and self-delusion. But it does not encourage 'true' belief, which comes from the understanding of the whichever scripture one thinks divine, but a fake belief; a lip service belief, to avoid persecution or imprisonment.
That's not just believing the lie (god),
that's pretending you believe in the lie just to stay out of jail.

I can see only honest, well balanced citizens springing from this decision - Oh, no actually, that's exactly the opposite of what I can see! Way to screw up your citizens, Irish government.
In fact this decision is, as I said at the beginning, still only putting one thought in my head, and again as I said, it is to my shame that I must now conclude that, for me, the passing of this nonsense into law has only served to reinforce the impression of the Irish, which is delivered by those hideous jokes.
To those in Ireland whom are not thick, of which I'm sure there are quite a considerable number, get your politicians to apologise for the image they are portraying of you.
Freedom of speech is more important than any damage done to any perception of any god. This is a nonsense law and ALL those who passed it should be at least be hounded from office if not sectioned as Psychologically unstable.

If you want to help remove the nonsense from Ireland check out the
Campaign to Repeal the Blasphemy Law at blasphemy.ie
http://blasphemy.ie/2009/07/23/campaign-to-repeal-the-blasphemy-law/#more-694
"Atheist Ireland will now campaign for the repeal of this anachronistic and dangerous blasphemy law, and for a referendum to remove the blasphemy reference from the Irish Constitution, as part of our wider campaign for an ethical and secular Ireland."

The BNP - Going Multi-Racial?

During my fervent Anti-fascism, Anti-racism, Anti-BNP campaigning, blogging and twittering, in the run up the the June 4th election, I came by a link to a full list of BNP members, thanks (I think) to an antipodean twitterer for that.

I was scanning through the list when I spotted the same name as an old friend, I glanced across the line hoping the address would be different, but alas his address - It was him! We'll call him Bill.

Last week I met Bill and worked the conversation around to the BNP. Bill, to my surprise, was quite blatant and not at all ashamed of his position as a respected member one of the BNP's heartlands. (To say more would give him away, and further conversations may reveal more.)

As you might expect this was not a conversation I could easily capture on video or even of which I could take running notes, so all I can do is relay the salient points of what he said to me, when I asked what he thought of Nick Griffin.

I'll leave it to you to judge its merit, they're Bill's words as I remember them...

'Nick Griffin?
We all think he's rubbish, a fat ignorant bigot who's doing nothing for the BNP.
He won't last, the next opportunity we get he's gone; we've got another really good guy lined up. This one's much more moderate.
And you'll see the party's white's only rule go aswell, and I'm sure that'll be within the year. The BNP is set to become the party of true Britain, not just the party of the whites!'

Pinch of salt anyone?
We'll see...

Absolute Power Corrupts - That's Just Divine

In 1887 historian and moralist Lord Acton, expressed this opinion in a letter to Bishop Creighton: "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men." - from phrases.org
http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/288200.html

Over the centuries this has been transmuted into 'Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely'. We all know the phrase but I've just had a thought about The Lord's use of the word absolute.
The definition of ABSOLUTE from Dictionary.com
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/absolute

Free from imperfection; complete; perfect... something that is not dependent upon external conditions for existence...
When you consider that Lord Acton was writing to a top ranking man of the cloth - was the use of the word a subtle nod to what the Bishop would consider to be the absolute power in the universe?

Should then the transmutation of the phrase now be reinvented as
'Power corrupts and
the power of God
corrupts absolutely'
?
