The Blasphemy Delusion

If you have not seen "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", firstly welcome to Earth, we are not as bad as we seem, please don't kill and eat us. And secondly, the Pat-a-Cake sub-plot is a great illustration, whether it was intended as such or not, for the offence of Blasphemy.
This clip shows the leap to judgment the audience makes about the Pat-a-Cake plot.

We hear the words Pat-a-Cake and assume, from our previous experience alone, that it is a metaphor for 'sex'; that Jessica is doing the dirty on Roger with RK Maroon.
Yet, we discover, ALL the sexual liaisons between the assumed adulteress and her lover were only in our heads, only our misinterpretation of the hard facts supplied and misjudgement thereby.
It's exactly the same with blasphemy, ALL the offence takes place in the head of the observer.
If you've not seen the film, it's well worth a watch.

Hey, I've just thought, isn't the simple fact that we have a day called 'blasphemy day' indicative of the oppression we, who cannot see "the Emperor's new clothes"(god), must endure in this world that is bursting with religions of 'peace'?

The Emperor's new clothes

Also,

Is really possible to give offence?
Surely it's only possible to take offence?

Seeking Not God

Hey, I just thought, the scriptures say that god is omnipresent or 'in all places at all times', yes? That god is 'all things', right? Conversely then, there MUST be nothing that god is not. This has such a delightful ring of "eliminate the impossible and whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth" it has to be worth exploring...

IF we could set out on an adventure, search the known universe, (I'll do my street, ok?) hunting high and low, no matter how long it takes to find anything, however microscopic, or massive; find something that is patently not god, that thing would place a boundary, or limitation on him, would it not?
Wouldn't the existence of that single item then, therefore, smash instantly the concept of god's omnipresence? Religions would no longer be able hail 'god' as 'ALL things'?
Come to think of it, would it not even cast serious doubt on the whole concept of omnipresence entirely?
A worthy prize I'm sure you'll agree! A single thing which god patently cannot be provides proof that the creator god is not omnipresent!
Priceless, surely?

I'll start us off with a think or two about 'things god cannot be' but please feel free to add more if you think of any...

1. Satan: Most religionists I reckon would agree with this one!
2. Mousetrap cheese: I can't see any religonist, no matter how fanatical, arguing that their god is Mousetrap cheese!
3. Me: Duh!
4. A Human woman: Whoa; don't go getting all bent out of shape fine people of the child bearing gender, we are merely trying to eliminate things here, 'women' takes out 50% of the human things that God cannot be and as god is obviously male, in Judeo-Christion words, deeds & depiction, at least, we do have reason to assume so.
Also can the features that have been ascribed to the god also be ascribed to a human female?
Are women omniscient? Maybe, sometimes it's like they have third eye or something and I know more than a few mothers who may edge into the omnipresent category but omnipotent is insupportable; they are not even all powerful on earth (no mysoginy just fact) and I've yet to meet a woman who doesn't do something to try and hold back aging process, so I think we can eliminate eternal!
5. A Human Man: Let's face it, Human males have absolutely no chance whatsoever of being god, so that eliminates the other 50% of humanity also.

So, obviously, that is bloody that then; any creator god is not omnipresent!
Bollox! Way Too easy!
I was up for being all 'Zak McKraken Ace Space Adventurer', travelling the universe in search of inscrutable truths but I didn't even get to leave my seat!
It's all too depressing.
I'm going for a walk to marvel at the earthly glory in the style of Charles Darwin.

Is Islam More Ideology Than Religion

This F.B.I. counter terrorism analyst and a professor at American Military University, William Gawthrop, seems to think Islam IS more ideology than religion and I have to say, I can see his point(s).
The video finishes before the end of his talk which makes it interesting and compelling but inconclusive; I'd like to have seen where his analysis went.

If anyone sees the rest of the video, let me know.

At least someone is awake in the seat of government, let's just hope it's not too late to do something about this creeping authoritarian ideology.
Although, if the article is anything to go by, the F.B.I.'s rapid disassociation from Gawthrop suggests, in front of the scenes at least, they still want to press the flesh with this wannabe bedfellow of the Nazi.

I wonder why?

A Matter Of Life And Matter

Lee Cronin gave a TED talk which was, very loosely, about his and his teams work to creat life from non-biological substances. ( Lee Cronin TED talk )
>
If this is what Lee Cronin and a chosen few can do 'now',
(estimated experiment conclusion 2013)
think how commonplace it will be to create life by 2113.

This is what a computer looked like only 30 years ago. This IBM had a processing speed of just a few Megahertz and memory capacity only in the kilobytes.
(Yes, it was Eeeeooow then too)

IBM circa 1981

And now we have this ubiquitous and delicious piece of tech kit. The Apple iPhone 5 has millions, possibly billions of times more computing power, more memory than about 8000 times that of the IBM's, is thousands of times more energy efficient and, of course, way smaller.

Iphone5 circa 2011

So, up until about now, the religious have spun out the line that Evolution is bull-poopy because

"Scientists
(Usually spoken with a subtext of 'Evil spawn of Satan')
can't make life from nothing, can they?!"
(Often followed by an under the breath, 'Na-naa Na-na-naa')

Looks like that particular faith crutch will be dealt a crushing blow and wing its way to the great fable slush-pile in the sky within a century.
Hey, the religious may even be able tell the products of Cronin's experiments, to their, by then, fully sentient faces, just how impossible it is for them to exist!
And as a final thought, or more of a barmy notion really,
Is it not possible that non-biological life could progress along an evolutionary path, expanding in complexity, in the style of Moore's Law of computational power?

Hitchens And Shmuley Debate Afterlife

It's a fine debate with numerous good points and counterpoints, a very interesting couple of hours.
If you're not up for watching the whole debate, one of the key moments is this youtube clip.
Christopher Hitchens is talking of a chilling statement made by the main Islamic speaker at a gathering of the nation of Islam he attended in Madison square Garden.
This quote is the culmination of his point:
"Call someone an Imam or a priest or a reverend,
there's nothing they can't get away with in our culture."
Hitchens

If you're on Twitter, clicking the quote tweets it :)
